The Covid 19 pandemic is causing drastic economic hardships for businesses
and individuals. Orangeville Township will be adversely affected as well.
State shared revenue is nearly 60% of Orangeville township revenues. The
projections are municipalities may see a reduction of 20-50% of State
Shared Revenue. A loss of 20-50% of that amount will have a dramatic
effect on the township budget.
At the May 12th board meeting a motion was made and a roll call vote
unanimously carried to roll back to the 2019-2020 wages of all township
employees. This roll back effective immediately applies to the township
board, deputy clerk, deputy treasurer, assessor, fire chief, fire
department personnel, janitorial, and election workers.
In addition to these roll backs the Orangeville Board thanks the fire
department for reducing and or delaying significant expenditures in their
budget. This too will help lessen the impact of the reduced revenue on
the 2020-2021 budget.
Furthermore, we will postpone all non-essential expenditures as much as
possible during this time. While the board regrets having to make this
decision, it is being done in an effort to maintain fiscal responsibility.
We are all anxious to have our lives return to normal. Until then we must
remain diligent and cautious in our efforts to halt the spread of this
virus. Stay safe everyone.
