In an effort to enhance the safety of pedestrians along Gun Lake the township board in conjunction with Barry County Road Commission has worked on measures they hope will help mitigate traffic and pedestrian interaction.
Thru/local signage – these signs were ordered this week and will be in place as soon as possible to notate to drivers for local traffic to take Marsh Rd and thru traffic to take Patterson Rd & Wildwood Rd.
- Lighted crosswalk – One set of this signage was ordered this past week. We will be in touch shortly as to the exact location that these need to be placed. We anticipate about a month before they will be in hand.
- Yield to pedestrian signs – these will be ordered in the next couple of weeks and will be placed at the new cross walk location and on the existing crosswalk near Bay Point.
We urge everyone to please use the designated crosswalks whenever possible. The lighted signage will have a button that will engage flashing lights on the sign, so that drivers are aware a pedestrian is crossing. Drivers, be aware, state law in Michigan gives pedestrians the right of way in designated crosswalks. As always, pedestrians always double check that you can safely cross the road.
We hope the signage will divert some of the traffic on this heavily traveled section of the road that has so much pedestrian traffic from the lake to the local businesses.
BE ALERT, BE AWARE, SAFETY FIRST!
